Canal House is elegant, tropical and relaxed, with just the right amount of sophistication. Our guests have described us as a boutique hotel, an up-scale bed and breakfast and a luxury guesthouse, and really, all of those labels fit.
The house was built around 1893 by one of Panama's founding fathers, Federico Boyd. The house is nearly five thousand square feet, with three bedrooms, a library and a large living-dining room. If you need to entertain guests while you are in Panama, Canal House's main floor can host formal dinners of up to fourteen guests and cocktail receptions for up to thirty.
We are located in Casco Viejo, a UNESCO designated world heritage site, adjacent to the newly restored Panama Canal Museum and steps from the City's best restaurants, cafes and cultural institutions. Casco Viejo is walking distance from all of the key government ministries and equidistant from both the banking center and the Panama Canal (less than ten minutes to each) making the hotel an ideal base for business travelers.

Our mission is to deliver the service of a luxury hotel while also serving as an integral part of the revitalization of our neighborhood. We cater to discriminating travelers who seek an experience as well as comfort, and we are proud to have opened the first high-end Hotel in Casco Viejo in nearly 100 years. We are also proud to be the first hotel in Central America to receive the Green Globe Certification.
But we don't rest on our laurels and we hope that our reviews prove it! We have consistently been rated the best bed and breakfast in Panama on Trip Advisor since 2007. Our two English speaking managers and their staff strive to provide our guests with a degree of service that a larger hotel simply could not match. For travelers attending business in Panama City, our over-sized suites offer separate office spaces, with everything one would expect in a five star hotel suite. For travelers on vacation in Panama, Canal House is an ideal base from which to explore the Panama Canal, Boquete, Bocas del Toro and the San Blas Islands.
At Canal House our most valuable asset is our team. All of our room staff is from the neighborhood. Prior to joining us, they received professional hotel training made possible by a community non-profit, Fundacion Calicanto, that is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in the Casco by ensuring that all residents have the ability to participate in the district's revitalization.
We've been reviewed in international publications, such as the New York Times, GQ, USA Today, and we have been consistently rated the best Bed and Breakfast in Panama on Trip Advisor since 2007. Read about it in our press room.
